Monoglyptic

Monoglyptic was the syllabic script used by the monks of the monastery of Yvsūssuē. It had a single character whose various phonetic realizations were conditioned by the syllable spoken as the character was carved-in-stone or inked-on-papyrus by the monachal scribe. Entirely inaudible to the profane, the syllable would be heard again by monks who read the character having drunk water in which certain psychopompic lichens had soaked overnight. Here are the first two series of the syllabary:
